CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

The benefits to do Cultural Activities while you're studying a foreign language.

It is a well-known fact that the best language learning takes place when students become totally engrossed in the topic they are studying and completely forget that they are using a foreign language. That's why we offer you a kind of several cultural activities. There are a fascinating array of learning opportunities are offered at our doorstep by the incredibly rich cultural heritage of Spain, Andalucia, and Sevilla.

Because of this, not only do make cultural learning an integral part of our classroom experience, but we also offer we a variety of optional cultural activities through outside companies.

Here is a summary of some of the activities that we offer, but if you have an interest that is not specified, just let us know and we will be happy to help you find and plan what it is that you are looking for.

Personal Activities

Soccer matches: Seville is proud home to two La Liga teams, Real Betis and Sevilla Futbol Club.  We can help you find tickets to either so that you might enjoy what the locals are so passionate about.

Theatre/Cinema: Sevilla boasts two main theaters: Teatro Lope de Vega is a smaller venue, with a traditional, luxurious feel, while the Maestranza Theater next to the bull ring is larger and not lacking in any of the features of a first class modern facility.  Both host a variety of plays, musicals, operas, and other events. Smaller venues also exist and we are happy to help you find just what you’re looking for in live entertainment. Additionally, there are many cinemas around Seville with a wide variety of offerings from the latest Hollywood blockbusters to artistic, low-budget productions. There’s one cinema nearby.

Hosted by SLC

See the sites: We probably don’t need to tell you that Seville is a gorgeous city, world-renowned for its large historic center with winding streets and full of history and classic architecture. Taking full advantage of our surroundings, we organize walking tours through the neighborhoods, as well as in depth visits to many of the most interesting places. For example, the old tobacco factory (now used by the university), the Torre del Oro, the Maestranza bull ring, the Archive of the Indies, and the Cathedral are all within 500 meters of your classroom!  You decide with your class where you want to go, and the next day off you go with your teacher to gain valuable practical experience using Spanish.

Languages exchanges: About every two weeks we host a language exchange where you can practice your Spanish and locals can practice their English, French, German, etc. These events are attended not only by SLC students (both English and Spanish), but also by local “Sevillanos” and foreigners who reside in Seville who want to practice their language skills and have a good time. We organize fun activities to break the ice often with prizes for the “winners”.

Proffesional shows and fairs: Being such an attractive city, Seville plays host to a wide variety of special events such as the Feria de Abril, Semana Santa, Bienal de Flamenco, Salón Internacional de Moda Flamenca, Festival de Cine Europeo, and many more.  Our students take advantage of the opportunity to experience these events accompanied by SLC personnel. Good times are had by all for sure.

Visits to nearby villages: Seville is a fairly dense city, and one need not go far to leave its borders and enter into the countryside. Within a half-hour’s bus ride, one can find dozens of charming villages “pueblos” with fascinating sites to see. You can see ancient Roman ruins or medieval palaces, surrounded by farms with endless rows of orange and olive trees. We organize guided trips, or we can help you make a plan to go it alone or with your classmates. When was the last time you had an interesting adventure like this?

Cooking workshops: Apart from the formal cooking classes from our partner business, we host cooking workshops right in our own kitchen at SLC.  Guided by your teacher, you will be part of the entire process: choosing the dish, make the shopping list, purchase the food at the market, prepare the food in our kitchen, and finally enjoy the dish with your classmates. Gazpacho, Salmorejo, Paella, Tortilla de Patatas, and much more!

Sports activities: Kayaking, roller skating, cycling route, hiking trail, wakeboarding, etc
